Keep Your Eyes Open!

Keep Your Eyes Open!

The drive to Roundstone showed me a lot more than the coast line and the Giant of Connemara. It showed me I could navigate the rural areas on my own. And it showed me that it's important to keep your eyes open. Not just because I was driving on the left and clearly used to taking buses, but because if you don't keep your eyes open here you miss things. Mother nature is always out to impress with sunsets. Some surprises are big, like the Giant of Connemara. Others are small. Really small. Like these little houses that I first saw on the Aran Islands and was told were built to give the 'little people' a place to call their own and keep them away from causing trouble.

But they are everywhere. And you can easily miss them as you drive across the countryside. I only got a few pictures because it's so hard to pull off the roadway when you're are driving on roads built for one car at a time with no shoulder at all.

It was a rather rainy trip and after checking in to the Bed and Breakfast I'd booked it turned out a wedding in that village had the three restaurants there booked. But I just kept walking and I seriously lucked out in a small place at the end of the village. I even got a tiny window seat overlooking the bay. And look at the view I had for dinner.

You really just never know what you're gonna find here. It's never quite what you're expecting, and yet it's usually way more than you could ever have hoped for.
