The Ultimate Adventurer's Challenge: Carrick-a-Rede

Would you walk across it? The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Ballintoy, Northern Ireland is just 20 meters across. It's 30 meters above the sea. It's got to be safe, after all more than a quarter of a million people a year brave the walk. Okay...it wasn't for me. But I did take pictures of the brave souls who crossed it to the tiny island just offshore. But then again you'd have no luck getting me on a roller coaster either. But it was amazing to see.

The salmon fishermen originally constructed it to avoid taxes. You see when the British  wanted to impose a tax on the salmon the fishermen realized that getting to Carrick-a-Rede just a few meters off shore really was "offshore" and by fishing there, they avoided the taxes on every day's catch. You've gotta love Irish innovation.

Originally it had only one rope to hold on to and no one seemed even concerned it wouldn't hold. And just look at the views the fishermen had of the rock islands just a bit farther offshore.
