Sometimes you have to float things out there and see if there's a market for them. Is there an audience for it? Is it an idea worth pursuing? Some 50 different vendors are doing that at the Tiny Traders Village in Galway. There are jewelers, artists, musicians and lots of food. I mean would you think that a menu based on avocados would work? It does. There's a place called "Avo Good Day" (say it out loud) making quite a mark. There are BoomBoom Burgers, freshly brewed coffee and tons of home made sweets.

For some this is serving as a proving ground; for others it's more of an escape.

Carlos Garcia Pando serves up made-to-order Spanish omelettes and other Spanish treats his wife makes during the week just for this market. But it's no in anticipation of say opening a restaurant. "No, we don't want to run a restaurant," Pando says. "She likes to cook and is good at it and we want to share out culture, so we come here to do that. For us, it's more of a hobby, a way to get completely away from the weekday routine. Doing this on Saturdays makes it feel like we've been a million miles away by Monday."

Paul David Murphy, who founded the market in September says the success has been steady. He says it was a platform this community needed for it's community of artisans. So he floated out the idea, opening this market to judge the need. And he was right.

You can find the Tiny Traders Village on Dominick Street Saturdays from 10-6.
