Trad Session in Reno

Trad Session in Reno

On Saint Patrick’s Day everyone is at least a little bit Irish. And I’ve found that if you look hard enough you can find Irish music in pretty much any town. In Reno, it comes in the form of musicians who have either been to Ireland, lived in Ireland, have family in Ireland or just love the traditional tunes.

This group comes together whenever they have the time. And this time of year they focus in, because they will be center stage in Reno on the day.

“I love the music, it reminds me of my ancestors”, says Daylene Goclono who plays bodhran, and guitar.

“It’s been a great way to decompress with the pandemic and all,” adds Alan Lyons who’s family is in Ireland and who has traveled back and forth a lot growing up. He plays violin and followed his father into playing at the age of 15.

Doyle Stewart is the lead singer, organizer and plays guitar and mandolin. They are practicing at his house and he’s always ready to invite players in.

“We play when we can,” says Gabe Plank, who sings and plays viola and accordion.

You can catch them playing live at The Alpine on East Fourth Street in Reno, March 17, starting at 9 pm.
