Not a Baaaaad Idea

So what do you do if you are a sheep farmer on an island and it comes time for your sheep to move on?  Book them onto the local ferry, of course.

Clare Island is a beautiful island just off the coast of Westport in County Mayo. It's home to about 150 maybe 160 full time residents and the sheep far outnumber that. When we arrived on a recent trip there we saw some wooly passengers waiting on the dock, being tended by a young boy on a bike and a sheepdog named Dolly. The dog really kept the flock together and when the incoming ferry arrived, it was just another day for them herding them onto the boat.

They are off to greener pastures..well everything's green here, but they need more grass from here on out, so they are headed in from the island. You gotta wonder what went through their heads as they headed off the island. I'm thinking passengers were too buy watching out for sheep droppings to think of much else. It's something I'd never seen before, but how else would you get a flock of sheep off the island? Irish ingenuity at work again.
