Life's a Patchwork

My father loved to work with wood. He he made things like hope chests and cradles and quilting racks after her retired. An because of that I've had quite an interest in quilting over the years. He used to take me to quilting shows where we'd admire the work and he's always quiz them about their quilting racks, how they were made and where they got them. And every once in a while he'd send me a quilt I'd admired somewhere. I don't have a ton of them, but a few. He used to say you should invest in the things in life that move you. They all become a part of the quilt of your own life.

Well it's been fun to see that it's an art that survives in so many places. And in the little town of Westport, on my way back from Clare Island, I had a few hours to kill waiting for a bus. I stumbled upon this quilt show. It showed how differently we all see this world.

Some are a bit modern and crazy.

                                                     Some are very creative.

                                  And some are traditional

The quilters were a delight. And while their art was a personal reflection of so many personalities and styles, in a lot of ways there were quite similar. They are all made with patience and a love of the art. So gather the pieces of your own quilt and know that no matter how it fits together it will be a beautiful thing in the end.
