When Fairies Take Over
It was 25 years ago that Debra Begley moved to Ireland from England. She and her husband moved on to an empty lot. They broke ground to grow a few vegetables and what has grown from that effort is an amazing fairy garden.
“It was never the plan,” she tells me. “We just wanted to grow vegetables.”
Or so they thought. Vegetables gave way to flowers which began to take shape as individual gardens.
She says it was just a matter of time when they began to feel the fairies all around them. Perhaps guiding them, but no doubt enjoying what they were creating.
Terra Nova Gardens is now an award winning garden not far from the town of Adare. Flowers and fountains, garden beds, ponds and trails that wind through the magic that is Terra Nova Gardens welcome you to meander and appreciate all that is there. An actual fairy fort across a boggy field from their house is where they feel the fairies came from. They appreciated them and share them with all who believe.
Keep an eye for Ed Sheerin, the orange tabby cat, who keeps everyone in check. Finbaugh and Aisling (pronounded Fin-bo’ and Eye-lish’ ) are two of many fairies who have made themselves known at Terra Nova Gardens. And if you catch Debra, she has a lot of tales to share as well.
