Living History
History is a living, changing thing. It’s a continuum. And it’s important to realize where we have been to have a prayer of seeing where we are headed. Just ask Paeder O’Dowd. He has lived through a lot of history in Galway, and he has studied even more of it. And as a prolific author of history here, he is often the go-to guy for clarification on everything from Christopher Columbus’ time in Galway, to visits of more contemporary figures including Guglielmo Marconi, Charles Lindberg and U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
The thing is, he knows a lot about a lot that’s happened and he is more than happy to share it, if you have the time.
I was lucky enough to have tea with him one afternoon. And you can hear his take on both Columbus and Kennedy in Episode 25 of Erin’s Isle. Just click on the podcast link at the top of this page.
