I'm a Master!

It all began with the 'robing' . No cheap  colored caps and gowns  here. Official academic robes they fit to make sure everyone matches and then Velcro the appropriate sashes in place. Every graduate was individually styled and sent on to the ceremony. And once we were seated the ceremony began with the presentation of a silver ceremonial mace.

The ceremony was conducted in Irish, Latin and English. No big speeches, just encouraging words from the officiates, and then every graduate in turn was honored. "We will clap for each  graduate as they ascend the stairs to receive their degree, but not afterward," it was explained. "That way everyone is honored equally and there is no clapping as they leave, as we'll be announcing the next graduate."

The music was traditional Irish music and I honestly expected to see a few leprechauns along the stage somewhere. I was so proud to have my family and good friends there, but it was imagining how proud my father would have been to see it, that made my throat tighten and tears well up as I climbed the stairs myself. He loved Ireland, and he would have been amazed to see that I actually moved here and that I did it to further my own education.

If you read this blog often you know I hardly ever post pictures of myself....but this was a reason to. It's the school I dreamed of coming to just two years ago. Now I've come, conquered and graduated as a Master.  And let me just say, if I can do this...so can you. Maybe not go back to school, but realize your dreams!
