Walking With Giants
It took two trains, a taxi, a tour bus and a two kilometer trek to get to the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, from my wee house in Galway.
But it was worth every step of the journey. The Causeway is a volcanic creation of hexagonal columns that seem impossible to have formed.
Some say it was built as a causeway for the Giants of years ago to get across the water to Scotland. And when you are standing there, just surveying the 40-thousand columns that formed some 60 million years ago, you feel you're but a speck in time and space.
The ferocious sea, constantly bettering the Antrim coastline in Northern Ireland just shows that the same forces that created this amazing place, continue today. So you are, in a sense, witnessing nature at work.
Walking the Giant's Causeway was on my bucket list coming to Ireland. As I told my kids, I wanted to do while I was still able. Seeing families take it all in, watching people of all ages marvel at natures handiwork, and just sitting and contemplating the area, the history and the stories of this place can't help but give you a new perspective on yourself.
