What you choose to do in life and how you decide to do it defines you. And choosing where you want to do it, can make all the difference in the world. Beth Moran knows the importance of all three. She loves creating art through weaving. And two decades ago she made that her focus in life. And she decided to do it in such a natural way that the only place she saw it working was on an island where she found everything she needed and wanted. And she didn’t even care that it couldn’t offer her the modern conveniences of things like electricity and hot running water. None of that even slowed her down. She moved to Clare Island and turned a cottage there into the workshop of her dreams.

She has room for four weaving looms, and rooms of material to work with.

She has sheep, just outside; the ocean close enough for a daily swim; all the natural ingredients she needs for dyes and all the solitude anyone could ever ask for.

You see, you really need to want to find her, to see her world-renowned woven art. It’s a long walk on an island where there are about a half dozen cars and everyone walks everywhere.

She invites students in a couple of times a year for workshops in spinning and weaving. She travels to art shows. She has complete control over her products from sheep to shelf. And she wouldn’t change it for the world.

And you tell me…can you imagine a better view from your office as you work?
